Monie's Crocheted Cap

Monie's last guest post for the moment is this crocheted cap.

Monie says, "This is crocheted and there is actually plastic canvas in the brim to hold the shape.  I'm an intermediate crocheter and this is an intermediate pattern, yet I still managed to mess it up!  I would stress pre-planning as goes to this hat.  I had the pieces structured to pattern, but construction was more difficult than expected.  It should have been a one afternoon project and it took me nearly a day."

Another pretty work in progress from our guest poster Monie.

This piece is one of the first times Monie's been able to follow a pattern but she did more than that, she changed it up in her own way so that it would be squared off!

Monie comments on this "I truncated the pattern to create a squared look but I've run out of white yarn so this one's on hold for the moment."

I think its adorable!

September 12, 2008 is Internation Crochet Day!!!

The title’s pretty much self-explanatory, isn’t it? :) September 12 is International Crochet Day, a day when crocheters everywhere are urged to do something crochet-related in public. You know, so we can hook others into it.

Some suggestions that have come up are:

Crochet in public
Teach someone to crochet
promote International Crochet Day in your blog
Wear something crocheted - and make sure everybody knows it!
Stand up on your crochet soapbox, hold your hook high and proudly declare that you are a hooker.

We gotta do something. Who's with me???

Monie's Bubbles

Here's a nice completed baby blanket Monie did.  This was done in squares that she then joined together and then put a lovely ruffle border around.

Monie remarks that this was "very simple and kind of boring towards the end."  Hmmm... where have I heard that before!?

Guest Posts

In July our friend Monie visited and we spent way too much time with yarn.  This resulted in a resurgence of interest in crochet and a new interest in knitting (she hadn't know how before).

Monie has graciously agreed to allow me to showcase some of her recent work here as she's become quite prolific in the past two months!

First, here's a knit project proving that I really was successful in passing on enough of the basics to get her started (in the round no less!):

Regarding this project Miss Monie says "Making round things is fun!"  She also goes on to mention that this isn't exactly the best train/bus travel project and thinks next time she'll use circular needles instead of worrying about poking passengers' eyes out!

John Paul's Head Band.

My friend's son, John Paul, has asked me to make him a head band in red and black. So I got this yarn from his mother, who had it already to make for him. John Paul said she was taking too long to make it for him so I went ahead and stepped up to plate and made it for him. Here he is showing it off for you blog readers out there.

Patterns for Traveling Scarf

So with my knitting/crochet group we are making a traveling scarf where we each make a square part of the scarf and then we pass it to the next person as we obtain a new square and just add to that. So these are two squares I have done, I have decided to use the slant one, although, I have to fix it. I need to make a bit loser to make it 5" X 4" long. Tell me what ya'll think.
